Frequently Asked Merchant Account Questions and Answers
4. When I make a credit card sale how do I get the money ?
How this process works, is when you submit a transaction to your processor by using the electronic terminal or through the online processing software, it communicates with the Visa/MasterCard authorization to ensure that the credit card that is being used is valid and that the amount of the transaction is not larger then the credit limit available on the card. The authorization places a hold on the transaction amount on the cardholder's credit limit. This way when the transaction is processed the funds will be available to you when the transaction is completed.
All you need to do to complete the transaction is to close the batch at the end of the day with your terminal. When you close the batch it is essentially going to mean to the merchant account provider that are prepared to deliver the goods and services expected by the cardholder. When you use online software to process transactions you will not need to worry about closing your batch as transactions are processed in real time. Once you have closed your batch the funds are deposited into your bank account usually within 48 - 72 hours.
